Underwriting Manager
Ryan Fay
24 years ago, Ryan took a temp job answering phones for a mortgage company during a refinance boom and the rest is history. She asked the Processor about a thousand questions in the first 90 days, so it is only fitting that she ended up as an Underwriting Manager answering questions for others all day long. Ryan quickly worked her way through the roles of processor, loan officer assistant and underwriter, eventually becoming an Underwriting Manager. She has a love for income calculations and appraisal reviews, with a healthy appreciation for Compliance and Risk Management.

“As Underwriting Manager, much of my day is now spent troubleshooting challenges and assisting my team of underwriters get loans to the closing table, but there is still something very satisfying about underwriting a loan and approving a first-time homebuyer.” Much has changed in the industry in the last 24 years, but reading and understanding the guidelines will never go out of style. “I’m a big believer in understanding the why behind the guidelines and have found that having those conversations with Sales and Processing pay dividends down the road with how they approach the next borrower’s loan.”
Ryan is based in Birmingham and manages a team of ten underwriters for FirstBank.
